Co-Natural vs Janssen Facials: Which Is Right for You?
Co-Natural and Janssen are two of the most requested facial brands in Lahore — but they solve very different skin problems. Here's how to choose.
Walk into almost any respectable salon in DHA and you'll be handed a menu with two names that keep coming up: Co-Natural and Janssen. Clients often assume they're interchangeable — both are premium, both promise glow, both cost more than a basic facial. But they're built on completely different philosophies, and picking the wrong one is why some women walk out feeling like they overpaid for a scrub.
At Rabbiz Salon, we run both. And after years of doing them on Lahori skin — which deals with hard water, pollution, sun, and the occasional load-shedding sweat session — we've noticed clear patterns in who benefits from which. Here's the honest breakdown.
The Core Difference in One Line
Co-Natural is a Pakistani clean-beauty brand built around plant oils, botanical extracts and gentle, feed-your-skin ingredients. Janssen is a German cosmeceutical brand built around targeted actives — peptides, enzymes, acids and clinical-grade ampoules that treat specific concerns.
Think of it this way: Co-Natural is what you'd eat every day to stay healthy. Janssen is what a nutritionist prescribes when something specific is off.
Neither is better. They just do different jobs.
What Co-Natural Actually Does Well
Co-Natural facials lean heavily on cold-pressed oils (argan, rosehip, jojoba), floral hydrosols, honey, turmeric and clay. The routine is calming, aromatic, and generally low-risk — which is why it's our default recommendation for:
- Sensitive or reactive skin that stings from stronger actives
- First-time facial clients in their late teens and early twenties
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women who want to avoid retinoids, strong acids and fragrance-heavy formulas
- Maintenance months — the in-between phases where your skin is behaving and you just want to keep it happy
- Dry, dehydrated skin that needs comfort more than correction
What you'll notice after: a softer, plumper, well-fed face. Skin looks rested. Redness calms down. Makeup sits better for about a week.
What it won't do: erase deep pigmentation, unclog stubborn blackheads permanently, or dramatically resurface texture. If you were hoping to walk out three shades brighter, this isn't the one.
You can book this under our regular Facial menu, and it pairs beautifully with a gentle Cleansing session the week before if your pores need prep.
What Janssen Actually Does Well
Janssen is a professional cosmeceutical range — meaning the concentrations of active ingredients are higher than anything you'd buy off a shelf, and the protocols are targeted. Janssen has separate lines for different concerns: Fair Skin (pigmentation), Skin Detox (congested/oily skin), Mature Skin (fine lines and loss of firmness), Sensitive Skin, and Demanding Skin.
That modular approach is its biggest strength. A trained therapist can customise the facial around your face rather than delivering the same steps to every client.
Janssen is the smarter pick if you're dealing with:
- Melasma, sun spots or post-acne pigmentation — the Fair Skin line uses tranexamic acid and vitamin C in serious concentrations
- Oily, congested skin with recurring breakouts — the Skin Detox line with salicylic and enzyme work
- Early ageing — loss of bounce around the cheeks and jawline, fine lines under the eyes
- Dull, tired skin ahead of an event where you need visible glow in 48 hours
- Textured skin — bumpy forehead, closed comedones on the chin
What you'll notice after: skin looks treated. Tone looks more even, pores look tighter, and there's a genuine luminosity that lasts 10–14 days. Some redness for a few hours post-facial is normal, especially with the brightening protocols.
Matching the Facial to Your Skin Type
Oily, acne-prone skin
Go Janssen Skin Detox. Co-Natural's oil-heavy formulas can feel too rich, and you need the enzymatic exfoliation Janssen provides. Once your breakouts are controlled, you can rotate a Co-Natural facial in every third month for a break.
Dry, dehydrated skin
Start with Co-Natural for two or three sessions to rebuild the barrier, then bring in Janssen's Sensitive or Mature line if you also have pigmentation or firmness concerns.
Combination skin
Honestly, alternate. Co-Natural in the cooler months, Janssen through summer when Lahore's pollution and UV are doing the most damage.
Pigmented skin (melasma, tan, dark patches)
Janssen Fair Skin, no contest. Book a course of four to six sessions, two to three weeks apart, and use SPF religiously in between.
Mature skin (35+)
Janssen Mature Skin for actives, and consider adding a monthly Body Massage to help with circulation and overall skin tone.
Sensitive or rosacea-prone skin
Co-Natural, always. Or Janssen's specific Sensitive line if a therapist has patch-tested you.
Price, Time and Frequency — The Practical Stuff
Janssen facials generally cost more than Co-Natural — you're paying for the imported actives and the customisation. Sessions run 60–90 minutes depending on the protocol. Co-Natural sits at a more accessible price point and usually takes 45–75 minutes.
Frequency guide:
- Co-Natural: every 3–4 weeks is fine, and safe long-term
- Janssen (treatment phase): every 2–3 weeks for a course of 4–6
- Janssen (maintenance): once every 6–8 weeks after your course
If you're prepping for a wedding, event or shoot, plan your last facial 7–10 days before — never the day before. Skin needs time to settle, especially with Janssen's active protocols. For brides specifically, we build this into the timeline during your Bridal consultation.
How We Decide at Rabbiz
When a new client sits down, we don't ask which facial she wants — we look at her skin, ask about her routine, her water intake, whether she's on any medication, and what she's hoping to see in the mirror in two weeks. That conversation decides the brand, not the price list.
If you're in DHA Phase 3 and unsure, book a short consultation first. A ten-minute skin read saves you from paying for the wrong facial three times in a row — which, unfortunately, is what most women do before they find something that works. You can also ease in with a basic Cleansing so we can properly see your skin before recommending a protocol.
The right facial isn't the most expensive one on the menu. It's the one that matches what your face is actually asking for this month.
