Pregnancy-Safe Salon Services You Can Still Enjoy in Lahore
A senior stylist's honest guide to which salon treatments are safe during pregnancy, which to skip, and how to feel pampered through every trimester in Lahore.

Pregnancy changes almost everything — including how your skin behaves, how your scalp reacts, and what feels comfortable on the treatment bed. At Rabbiz, we look after a lot of expectant clients from DHA Phase 3 and around Lahore, and the questions are almost always the same: Can I still get my roots done? Is a facial safe? What about a pedicure when my feet won't stop swelling? The short answer is that plenty of salon services are absolutely fine — you just need to know what to modify, what to postpone, and which treatments actually help during these nine months. Here's an honest, senior-stylist breakdown.
The General Rule: Gentler, Not Nothing
Pregnancy isn't a nine-month ban on self-care. In fact, most women need salon time more than usual — hormones are wreaking havoc, sleep is unreliable, and feeling put-together makes a real difference to mood. The principle to remember:
- Avoid strong chemicals and heat directly on the skin/scalp, especially in the first trimester.
- Skip anything that requires you to lie flat on your back for long stretches after week 20 (it can compress the vena cava).
- Communicate. Tell your therapist you're pregnant and which trimester — good salons will adjust products, pressure, and positioning.
At Rabbiz we keep a note on file for pregnant clients so every therapist you see knows to modify from the start.
Hair Services: What's Safe, What to Modify
Most obstetricians in Pakistan are comfortable with hair coloring after the first trimester, but the way it's done matters.
Coloring and Highlights
- Highlights and balayage are safer than global root touch-ups because the product doesn't touch the scalp. Ask specifically for foils that start a few millimetres away from the roots.
- Ammonia-free and PPD-low dyes are the sensible default. Our colorists at hair treatments and dye will happily switch to gentler formulas — just mention pregnancy at booking.
- Skip permanent smoothing, keratin, and rebonding. Formaldehyde exposure isn't worth the risk, and hair texture often changes post-pregnancy anyway.
Cuts, Blowdries and Scalp Care
A good cut is possibly the best pregnancy investment. Layers that work with growing volume, a shape that survives a messy bun, and a shampoo-and-blowdry that lets you feel human again. All completely safe. Our regular hair services — cuts, blowdries, deep conditioning masks, oil head massages — are all pregnancy-friendly. Just ask for the wash-basin recline to be adjusted so your neck isn't hyperextended.
Skin & Facials: Yes, With Adjustments
Pregnancy skin is unpredictable. Some women glow; others break out or develop melasma (the "pregnancy mask") because of hormones and Lahore's strong sun.
Generally safe:
- Basic cleansing facials with gentle enzyme exfoliation
- Hydrating facials with hyaluronic acid, vitamin C serums, aloe, oat, centella
- Gentle extractions (done by a trained therapist, not aggressive squeezing)
- Under-eye and lip care with fragrance-free products
Avoid during pregnancy:
- Retinol/retinoid facials and strong AHA/BHA peels
- Hydroquinone-based brightening treatments
- High-frequency, microcurrent, radiofrequency, and laser
- Essential-oil-heavy aromatherapy facials (some oils aren't advised in pregnancy)
When you book a facial, simply flag your trimester. We'll pick a product line that avoids retinoids and salicylic acid, and swap in melasma-safe brightening (vitamin C, niacinamide, licorice) instead.
Nails, Hands and Feet
This is where pregnant clients often get the most relief.
- Manicures and pedicures are safe through all three trimesters. Choose a well-ventilated salon (nail chemical fumes in a stuffy room are the real issue, not the polish itself).
- Ask for a 5-free or 7-free polish — most quality brands are formulated without formaldehyde, toluene and DBP.
- Skip acrylic extensions and gel removal via aggressive filing if the smell bothers you. Regular polish or a soak-off gel done in an open space is fine.
- Foot swelling from month 5 onwards is real. A proper medi/pedi with a cool-water soak, gentle callus care and a long leg massage (upwards, towards the heart) makes a genuine difference. Many of our third-trimester clients come in every two weeks just for this.
Avoid deep reflexology pressure points around the ankles (specifically the SP6 point above the inner ankle) — trained therapists know to skip these.
Massage and Body Care: The Rules Change by Trimester
First trimester (weeks 1–12): Most doctors advise skipping full body massage in the very early weeks. A head massage, foot soak or shoulder-and-neck release is safer.
Second trimester (weeks 13–27): This is the sweet spot. A side-lying prenatal massage — never flat on the belly, never flat on the back for long — with medium pressure is genuinely therapeutic for back pain and swelling. When booking a body massage, specifically request the prenatal setup with bolster pillows.
Third trimester (weeks 28+): Keep sessions shorter (45 minutes), avoid deep tissue on the lower back and legs, and skip abdominal work entirely.
Skip throughout pregnancy: hot stone therapy, sauna, steam rooms, and any body scrub with strong essential oils.
Hair Removal: What Actually Works Right Now
Your skin is more sensitive during pregnancy — expect more redness and, sometimes, more ingrowns.
- Threading is completely safe for face and brows. Our threading with thread service is a favourite in the third trimester when nothing else feels comfortable.
- Sugar and fruit wax are gentler options for legs, arms and underarms. Waxing with organic sugar is water-soluble, low-temperature and less likely to irritate hormonal skin.
- Skip laser hair removal and any bleach during pregnancy — melanocytes are hyperactive right now, and results are unpredictable.
- Bikini waxing is safe but book a therapist you trust; you'll want speed and gentleness.
A Sensible Pregnancy Salon Routine
If you'd like a template:
- Every 4 weeks: cut/blowdry + gentle facial
- Every 2–3 weeks (from month 5): pedicure with leg massage
- Every 6–8 weeks: highlights or ammonia-free colour (after first trimester)
- As needed: threading, sugar wax, prenatal massage
That's it — nothing overwhelming, nothing risky, and enough to keep you feeling like you through a season when so much is changing. If you're in DHA and want us to build a trimester-by-trimester plan on your file, just message the salon ahead of your first appointment. We'll take it from there.
